Living National Creatures (2013) + the audience performs
commissioned by Frontier Danceland for Dancers' Locker
"Bernice Lee’s Living National Creatures was about how we revere national treasures but also acknowledge their passing and their replacement by new generations. The overpowering soundtrack of the documentary Walking with Dinosaurs seemed to direct the dancers’ movements into postures that reconstructed the bodies of these giant animals in an overt interpretation of the theme. The dance took a fun turn, however, when she invited members of the audience onto the stage in what became one of the best instances of audience involvement I have seen. Allowing the volunteers to experience the postures with the dancers, run to regroup, and genuinely share the space became absorbing for both the participants and viewers." - Stephanie Burridge, Flying Inkpot, July 2013
